Every year, children who wish to be part of our school council are able to put themselves forward for a democratic vote at the start of the school year and will produce a small speech to give to their class. The child with the most votes in each class will become the school councillor for the year. This all links to the children learning and understanding the British Value of democracy.

This year, the School Council has been meeting weekly to discuss different agendas. They have created a pupil-friendly behaviour triangle which allows pupils to see how the school’s behaviour system is used.

They have met with the Rights Respecting Ambassadors and narrowed down the choices of charities to support this year and the final three were Julia’s House, RSPCA and Poole Lifeboats. A whole school vote was organised with the school choosing to help raise money for the RSPCA. In Summer 1, the RSPCA will be coming in and conducting an assembly for the school to explain what happens with the money they get given. In Summer 2 we will be having a fundraising day where the pupils can come in dressed as an animal to raise money for this wonderful charity.

With the support of the school council a number of new books have been purchased for the library after they conducted a survey of all the classes to identify what the children would like.

The School Council have presented assemblies of awareness of comic relief as well as meeting with the head teacher to discuss changes to the school including; time by the fish pond, tidy Friday in classes and a new pupil voice survey where the children get to have their say on their foundation lessons and how they can be improved for the future.
